What We Owe God

I can’t sleep tonight. This is a common theme for me but tonight is a little different. I was reading Thomas Watson’s A Body of Divinity and was arrested with the idea of what it means to glorify God. Watson would list four keys to glorifying God. And as I sit here and meditate on his words I wonder if thankfulness, worship, love and surrender mark my life as they should. God who created and sustains me also calls me to worship and surrender myself to Him. We are reminded in 1 Chronicles 16:29 the we are to “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name.” I want so very badly to do that! And how is that accomplished? Let me answer that in four questions. 1. Do you daily thank God for who He is and what He has done? 2. Is worship and devotion a daily response of yours toward God? 3. Do you regularly show genuine love toward God? 4. Are you living a life surrendered to God? I’m wrestling with these four questions as I type these words. I pray that for each of us the answer to each question is a resounding yes! I’m learning daily that God’s glory is our good.

“Glorifying God consists in four things: 1: Appreciation, 2. Adoration, 3. Affection, 4. Subjection.”            Thomas Watson
